Youth In Action Project

The Youth In Action Project 'Exploring Stories of Cultural Integration' is taking place at Allanton House in Auldgirth from 1st to 8th August 2011.  The project is funded by The British Council and built upon many years of close cooperation between the towns of Dumfries and Cantu.

Two groups of young people, from Italy and from Scotland, will share a week together in the beautiful surroundings of Allanton House.  The purpose is to provide the opportunity and stimulus for young people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to work together as a team on a common project.

The project will promote awareness of 'peace' in all aspects of life, through activities, discussions, workshops and real experience.

The young people will be introduced to first, second and third generation Italian and other migrants from Europe and beyond, in order to discover for themselves the first-hand experiences of arriving and living in Dumfries and Galloway.  The region's Multicultural Association will also be involved, giving the young people an opportunity to look at the impact and capabilities of civil society organisations to develop integration and foster peace.
We hope that the project will do its bit to create an inclusive, peaceful Europe and that the young people involved will be empowered to make their own contribution to this.
